If Kavanaugh can successfully navigate the Senate confirmation process, he will join Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch on the bench— potentially providing a conservative advantage for the foreseeable future.

Kavanaugh is a safe SCOTUS choice for President Trump as the Establishment wing of the GOP has lobbied for the pick for some time. The National Review voiced their support for Kavanaugh prior to the selection. This sentiment was echoed shortly after the announcement by Establishment mainstays the Bush family and Paul Ryan.

Excellent choice for SCOTUS. Judge Kavanaugh will be a strong defender of the Constitution.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh is an excellent choice for the #SCOTUS.

Kavanaugh Has a Great Track Record

Kavanaugh has an extensive track record in DC circles as he has held a fellowship under Ken Starr and clerked for departing Justice Anthony Kennedy. He also served as White House staff secretary under George W. Bush. In 2006 he was appointed to the appeals court for the District of Columbia Circuit.

The initial reaction on Twitter from conservative voices has also been positive.

GOOD sign:

“A Judge must interpret and NOT make the law.”

“A judge must interpret the Constitution AS written.”

Alexander Hamilton once said, “A sacred respect for the constitutional law is the vital principle, the sustaining energy of a free government.”

Because he embraces this timeless truth, Judge Kavanaugh is the right choice for America.

As expected, the Democratic Party is already expressing their resistance to the pick.

Whether or not the Supreme Court enforces the spirit of the words "Equal Justice Under Law," is determined by the individuals who sit on that Court. Brett Kavanaugh represents a fundamental threat to that promise of equality. I will oppose his nomination to the Supreme Court.

We’re rallying outside the Supreme Court to oppose Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination. He is a threat to reproductive rights, affordable healthcare, workers’ rights, and LGBTQ equality. His nomination must be defeated. #SCOTUS

The pick has also garnished the support of the NRA. It is expected Kavanaugh will uphold the Second Amendment.

#ScotusPick “On behalf of our six million members, the NRA strongly supports Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court. We will be activating our members and tens of millions of supporters throughout the country in support of Judge Kavanaugh." – @ChrisCoxNRA

Kavanaugh bested nominees Amy Coney Barrett, Raymond Kethledge, and Thomas Hardiman. The decision to go with Kavanaugh over a DC outsider such as Coney Barrett has upset some people on the right side of the aisle.

The Kavanaugh pick is a safe one for President Trump. The Yale graduate and DC insider has concerned some conservatives who feel he may too close to the Bushes. The pick of Kavanaugh will still face heavy scrutiny from the left but will likely not face much opposition from the majority Republican Senate. Based on resume, Kavanaugh was the most accomplished judicator out of the four finalists.

  1. Remains to be seen how this will all play out. There is no one who the President can pick that will make anyone happy. I'm expecting a long battle and hoping I'm wrong.
