BREAKING: John McCain Dead at 81

Arizona Sen. John McCain has died at the age of 81...

The longtime senator passed away Saturday according to a statement released by the family. McCain succumbed to complications due to brain cancer.

McCain announced last year he had been diagnosed with a glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain tumor. On Friday, his family released a statement that he was discontinuing treatment.

Remembering John McCain

McCain served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was captured and spent five years as a prisoner of war for North Vietnam. After his time in captivity, he returned to the states where he finished out his service with the U.S. Navy. In 1981 he retired from the Navy and pursued political office. McCain would successfully serve Arizona in Congress for over three decades.

There have been many condolences expressed by both sides of the political aisle on Twitter. President Donald Trump offered his condolences to the McCain family.

Others also shared their condolences in regards to the former 2008 Republican Presidential Candidate.

Meghan McCain penned a letter and shared it on Twitter offering her heartfelt words for her father.

McCain leaves behind his second wife Cindy, seven children and numerous grandchildren.
